Some comments on background generator from the Hacktastic book

I have a suggestion if/when you do a revision.

In the
backgrounds you randomly roll you have the section where you roll 2
d20s to find out 2 random events in your past. Because both of these
give bonuses, getting a specific number does matter. The law of
probabilites thus comes into play because a player is most likely to
roll 21, second most likely to roll 22 or 20, and so on till 2 and 40.
The point is a lot of the numbers are weighted to very good picks are
easy to get and bad ones are hard to get. In most cases it should be
the opposite.

IE: closer to 21 means 1 stat no choice (or weak
skill ups etc), 2 and 40 should be pretty open to player's choice. It
isn't like that atm.

Furthermore, if you guys decide to use dice rolling beyond 2d20 use this formal:

(#sides/#dice)+1=average number (if number is .5 then average is both above and below.

 FE:3d20

((60/3)+1=30+1=31

This works eve even with different dice combiinations, liek 10d4+3d6

Also while I'm here, for a
future product you might consider a background generator. Central
Casting is a good book, but dated. I think you guys could get a lot of
sales out of this even for people who wouldn't normally play hacktastic
if the stuff (other than stats related stuff) was generic enough. This
book really changes character creation from being a chore to being a
fun social event almost as fun as playing the character.

To be perfectly honest I was not all that concerned with odds when throwing in the background generator. They are just bonus points for Player characters and just meant to be fun, add flavor (if you so choose to use the fluff) and give you a little edge over NPCS since our system is a bit more HACKTASTIC than others. They are not counted in your build for purposes of determining experience. While your views are shared by many, they are not shared by me. The background generator was once only fluff and did not provide ANY bonus points when it was first created. The points were added as an afterthought and most were applied to fit with the background fluff.

If you would like more choice in your home games, feel free to just give your Players 10 points to use as they see fit. Rolling backgrounds and just using the fluff (or make up your own backgrounds).

A larger background generator is already in the planning stage. It will be more racial specific in nature. Though still used as a bit of fun during PC creation.

This in no way is meant to deter you form voicing opinions or suggestions. We are always glad to hear from our gamers. Feel free to keep us on our toes. I read everything sent to us. No suggestion is too bold or too crazy. We like giving you guys what you want. We just have to fit it into using what we have to work with and keep it fun and hacktastic for everyone.

Thanks for your insight
