I watched the trilogy the other day and I'm always amazed at the attention to detail. The way he stayed true to the story makes these movies a joy to see. It's like looking through Tolkiens eyes every time I push play. I want to take off my shoes, look down at my fuzzy little feet and I'm right there with Sam and Frodo, off to find adventure. I can't imagine you haven't seen them, but if it's been a while take another look. Then come back, and share.

Perhaps Peter Jackson should have read a little closer, This comes from the White Wizard himself.

"He who breaks a thing to find out what it is, has left the path of wisdom."

- Gandalf

"They were once men – Gamers. Then (Peter Jackson) the deceiver gave to them (Three Movies) of power. Blinded by their Need of Good Fanasy Movies and a certain elf princess in tight leathers, they took them without question. One by one they've fallen into darkness. Now they are slaves to his will. They are the Buttheads, unread savages who have never read the books, neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of the TRUE STORY, drawn by its power. They will never stop hunting for it, but they shall never fully find it on film."

- BigE to a young Role-player, concerning the unread savages

"They were once men – great kings of men. Then Sauron the deceiver gave to them nine rings of power. Blinded by their greed, they took them without question. One by one they've fallen into darkness. Now they are slaves to his will. They are the Nazgul, Ringwraiths, neither living nor dead. At all times they feel the presence of the Ring, drawn to the power of the One. They will never stop hunting you."

- Aragorn to Frodo, concerning the Naz'gul

"Peter jackson presented the story half as well as I would like; and He likes less than half of the gamers half as well as they deserve."

"I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve."

- Bilbo at his party

BROOKS, you have awoken a sleeping Dragon. I hope you enjoyed yourself "O' king of the S*@T Disturbers"

“My armour is like tenfold shields, my teeth are swords, my claws spears, the shock of my tail a thunderbolt, my wings a hurricane, and my breath death!”

Something was coming up behind them. What it was could not be seen: it was like a great shadow, in the middle of which was a dark form, of man-shape maybe, yet greater: and a power and terror seemed to be in it and to go before it.

"Ai! ai!" wailed Golden. "A Big-E! A Big-E is come!"

"A Big-E," muttered Giarc. "Now I understand." He faltered and leaned heavily upon his staff. "What an evil fortune! And I am already weary."

Actually I can honestly say the movies gives certain parts in the story more of a "feel" to what is going on than the books. The massive battle scenes in particular.

The one other part I really enjoyed was when the first ringwraith was learning over the knotted up tree roots as the hobbits cowered praying for thier meager existance. That scene gave such a feeling of the hobbits being little nothings forgotten as the breath of air.

Now as versions go even in the books many things have been debated…. and changed through various prints. One things in particular…

"Old Took's great-grand-uncle Bullroarer, who was so huge (for a Hobbit) that he could ride a horse. He chargeed the ranks of the goblins of Mount Gram in the Battle of the Green Fields, and knocked their king Golfinmbul's head clean off with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards throught the air and went down a rabbit-hole, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Golf invented at the same moment."

Now as looking at one's fuzzy little toes…. methinks the Brooks smells more like a Newman….. hrmmm…. or is that back hair.

The Game of Golf section you speak of is in the Hobbit, not the LOTRs.

The Ring Wraith leaning over was inspired by a rather famous painting based on the books.

As to Brooks looking more like a Newman… There can be only one!

Gandalf did not move.
And in that very moment, away behind in some courtyard in the City, a cock crowed.
Shrill and clear he crowed, recking nothing of wizardry or war, welcoming only the
morning that in the sky far above the shadows of death was coming with the dawn.

Aye it is from the Hobbit, but that is one of the more argued snippets from the Tolkien books. My point being is that even in book form Tolkien has been desputed for years… from nothing more than simple release dates.
