"Peter Jackson, New Line Cinema, and MGM have agreed to work on two new movies: a film adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit', and a further sequel. From the article: 'The two Hobbit films … are scheduled to be shot simultaneously, with pre-production beginning as soon as possible. Principal photography is tentatively set for a 2009 start, with the intention of 'The Hobbit' release slated for 2010 and its sequel the following year, in 2011.'"

Said Peter Jackson, “I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to put our differences behind us, so that we may begin a new chapter with our old friends at New Line. ‘The Lord of the Rings’ is a legacy we proudly share with Bob and Michael, and together, we share that legacy with millions of loyal fans all over the world. We are delighted to continue our journey through Middle Earth. I also want to thank Harry Sloan and our new friends at MGM for helping us find the common ground necessary to continue that journey.”

I was talking to my coworkers today (the Ice Man and Mr. Heil) and we are skeptical that this adaption will be any good. I mean, really… LotR is a whole lot different from The Hobbit.

We shall see. I wonder which one of the dwarves will now be female? Or how they plan to crowbar Liv Tyler into the story.

The Hobbit is my favorite book of all time and is the reason I became a gamer. I hope they do not screw this up badly.

I have great fear in my heart. "Chink the glasses crack the plates, what does Bilbo Baggins hate?"
Answer: Liv Tyler as Bard the guardsmen.

"Pink Arrow you have never failed me and I have always recovered you. If truly you come from (insert Bull Crap Here) of old speed well and strike true!"

WWI could not kill the story, lets see if Jackson and his lot can.

I know what you mean about trying to change the story to make them more "progressive". Dammit man, this should be one of the classics just for long it has been around. One thing sure as hell though… time and true, when books are made into movies there is always a certain something that is lost.

I hope that they can find a few good things in the story as well, of course Smaug should be an awesome sight to behold. I can imagine the movie should be able to do that sort of thing. One of my favorite parts is when the three trolls are argueing about who gets to eat who and how they are going to do the eating. If they can pull that off I will be happy.
